A photograph of an outfit may open a question, but it rarely answers who made a garment, when the image was created or how widely a style circulated. A strong tip distinguishes what the sender knows firsthand from what they inferred later.

A silhouette associated with one city, school, record label, dance scene or sporting community should not automatically stand in for an entire decade. If the tip concerns a local practice, name the neighborhood, venue or community as precisely as privacy permits.

Corrections and rights

Payment, gifts or product access do not buy an unmarked article, a favorable conclusion or control over independent coverage. Sponsored proposals must be labeled at the outset.
